History :
MMBM is a large multidisciplinary team of about 30 persons, dedicated to the application of physics and chemistry to biology and medicine. The first streamline of research is dedicated to fundamental biophysics studies of molecular interactions and molecular transport. This comprises in particular DNA-protein interactions, cell-cell interactions, molecular motors. These processes and properties are studied at the single object (single molecule, single cell) level. The group is also specialized in the development of original instrumentation for biophysical studies, in particular original single-molecule nanomanipulation tools. Another research streamline of the group is the development of bioanalytical methods and tools, based on innovations in physics, chemistry, soft matter and microfluidics. The group has specialized in lab-on-chips and microfluidics, being the second in France in size, for this topic. Research in this domain involves both the development of new generic enabling technologies, and that of integrated instruments dedicated to specific biomedical applications. One of our aims is to push development as far as possible towards clinical practical use, thanks to the priviledged clinical environment of Curie Institute. For this purpose, the group is also strongly involved in translational medicine, industrial cooperation and technology transfer. The spirit and strengths of the group will be better exemplified by a selection of its current projects.
